Looking for a beautiful location to take family pictures in Syracuse, NY? A great option to consider is Green Lakes State Park in East Syracuse. This area has stunning scenery for the background of any family or maternity photography shoot, particularly in the fall. Like its name this location has a beautiful body of water that actually looks green in the middle because of some interesting nature reasons (haha, I forget why) with trails that run along the edge for most of the perimeter. Along with the numerous hiking trails along the lake there is a beach front area that has posted lifeguards during daytime hours. A popular spot for taking pictures at Green Lakes is the Old Education Building, a large stone building with a flowing 30+ open staircase facing the water. This building is rented out for events but has such an beautiful exterior that it is often used during photoshoots.
The park is generally open 7am-8pm depending on the season with an admission fee of 8$ per car on the weekends with additional fees and permits for anyone who is staying to camp. The park has 2 restrooms, a playground, a concession stand and plenty of picnic tables. There is a rowboat boathouse with paddleboat rentals. Also on location is an 18 hole public golf course that opened in 1936. The park grounds is mostly comprised of large specimens of tulip trees, sugar maples, beech trees, basswood, hemlocks and white cedar trees. In Syracuse these trees tend to turn mid October depending on the weather but almost always have reached peak by the end of October.
